The Monastery
Sitlisalp

The Monastery (English)
A refuge for people and plants on the Sitlisalp. We call it a monastery, but it has nothing to do with religion: it is entirely devoted to plants. We chose twelve endangered plant species that grow at high altitude and each have a use. The root of the yellow gentian becomes liqueur, the stem a cleaning agent and the leaf a salad. Around these plants we designed a daily rhythm, and that rhythm shapes the architecture of the house. Presented with two large models and a series of drawings.
